"It's A String Thing!"#123

For "It's a String Thing" #123, Adele selected TanglePatterns String #123 by Kim English

This week's tangles include:
Daviso by CZT® Katie Crommett - I had never done 'Daviso' before.
I used Linda Farmer's tip of using a diamond grid to draw Daviso. Very helpful I must say
Holiday Ornaments by CZT® Suzanne McNeill  - this is one of my favorites!!

I was down with Flu from Monday so I had lots of tries with this combination. My husband was so sweet to do all the cooking!! :)

Here are my tiles.
First tile I did , the circles in the String looked perfect to be the holiday ornaments.

On the second attempt, I wanted to use Daviso in the circles.

Third attempt, I just did Holiday ornaments along the string line.

What fun it was!! Not the Flu but the tangling!!
Let's keep tangling!

Diva's Weekly Challenge #248: "Give the Gift of Zentangle"

This year's final Diva Challenge will be to give the gift of Zentangle!

I created one for my 2 year old son's play-and-stay group's coordinator Sophia. We moved to UK in Aug 2015. The move was more difficult for my son. She has been helping him a lot to adjust in the new environment.

I was also planning on giving tangled Christmas cards to all the other mums in the group. I have been working on these over the weekend. I hope they like them.

"It's A String Thing!"#122

"It's a String Thing" #122, Adele provided a String of her creation TanglePatterns String #122 and tangles selected are
Verdigogh, a Zentangle® original tangle by Zentangle® co-founder Maria Thomas
Kuke by CZT® Katy Abbott
63Y by CZT® Hsin-Ya Hsu

I decided to do Verdigogh along the String line, 63Y in the circle and Kuke all over.

I have used Staedtler fine color liners keeping in with the festive mood. I also used gold glitter gel pen to do some CO2.( I just love this tangle!!)

Here's my tile. You can not see the sparkle of the glitter pen though.

I tried taking one more in this angle to see if the glitter will show up, but this too is not clear enough.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #247: "UMT: African Artist"

Today is the first Monday of the month so that means it's Use My Tangle (UMT).
Laura has selected a beautiful tangle 'African Artist' created by CZT® Tina-Akua Hunziker.

The tangle is very easy as its just composed of free flowing lines. This is my first attempt with this tangle, but definitely not my last! I added some 'Diva Dance' as a border.
Here is my tile.

It's A String Thing # 121 - Aquafleur Monotangle Christmas Tree

In this week's "It's a String Thing" #121, Adele wanted to mark the beginning of the Christmas season with a tree theme this week.

What co-incidence!! This week has been all about trees on the Diva's challenge too(you can see my Diva challenge response here).

She provided a String in shape of a Christmas tree and she wanted us to monotangle it using Aquafleur - an Zentangle® original tangle by Maria Thomas

I started off and drew the Aquafleur. But felt like using some color. And then before I knew it, my whole tree was colored.. And its not a monotangle tile either.. I ended up adding some Ahh, CO2 , Diva dance to make it more festive.. Also a letter 'S' border..
I got carried away and you can't blame me!!

Here are the pictures of my tile along the way..

Diva's Weekly Challenge #246: "Monotangle Trees"

This week's challenge is a Guest post on Laura's blog by CZT® Dilip Patel.
He is from Bangalore,India and I am so privileged to be one of his students.
He wanted us to choose any tangle pattern of our liking and create a tree using only the chosen tangle over strings representing a tree.

Here are my tiles.

First tile with CZT® Sandy Bartholomew's pattern Mumsy

Second attempt with Zentangle®-original tangle: Pokeleaf

Diva's Weekly Challenge #245 - "Back to Basics - Hollibaugh"

This week, Laura wanted us to use the Zentangle®original tangle pattern Hollibaugh.

I have been wanting to try out this new tutorial on creating Jems-kind of look using watercolors. This tutorial was shared on the Zentangle® group by Kae Yoshino.

It did not come out as shown in tutorial as I used watercolor paints instead of color pencils as required by the tutorial. But I am happy that I tried something new!
Here's my tile.

"It's A String Thing!" # 119

In this week's "It's a String Thing" #119, Adele wanted to mark the 100th anniversary of the iconic bottle design of the Coca-Cola Company.

She selected TanglePatterns String 011 (by Yamit Fridman) whose lines suggest a bottle shape.
Patterns  are
100 by CZT® Adele Bruno
Bublz by Lori Byerly
Ripples by Helen Williams

I decided to use 100 along my string line. 100 was easy to draw. That is a stepout that is so simple to remember and so many variations.
I had a tough time deciding whether I wanted to put Bublz inside the bottle shape or Ripples to look like the glass. Then I decided that since Adele selected Ripples because it reminded her of the feel of the bottle, Ripples it would be.. I could not stop with the Ripples so left with very less space for Bublz..

Here's my tile.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #244 - "Tripoli Triptastic"

This week, Laura wanted us to use the Zentangle®original tangle pattern TRIPOLI.
Frankly, I have not used this tangle much. But the step-out page suggests that a lot of different variations are possible. Both variations in my tile come from there.

Here's my tile.

"It's A String Thing!" #118

In this week's "It's a String Thing" #118, Adele wanted us mark the oddity in the calendar year (pun intended).
Friday was 11/13/15.It was also ODD DAY, the sixth and final time this century that the date is a continuous sequence of odd numbers.

We had to use Joyce Burns' String 017 (odd number again!!)
along with the 11th, 13th, and 15th tangles listed on TanglePatterns.com:

Acrosstick  by Ed Gucker, CZT
Afterglo  by Carole Ohl, CZT
Ahh by Maria Thomas, Zentangle® co-founder

Here's my tile. If you count the no.of times I used each pattern, you will find I used odd numbers. I used 9 squares in Acrosstick, 5 of Afterglo and 15 of Ahh.
How's that for celebrating Odd numbers!!

Diva's Weekly Challenge#243 : "Just a tiny taste"

Diva says "The challenge is to INTENTIONALLY LEAVE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR TILE EMPTY.... giving the tile just a tiny taste of tangle.
For this challenge, I'd say try to leave over have of the tile blank... like 60-70%"

I have used Diva Dance and here is my tile.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #242: "New Official Tangle: Gourdgeous"

This week on Diva's blog, Laura wanted us to tangle the new official Zentangle® pattern 'GOURDGEOUS' released in the Zentangle® newsletter last week. This tangle kind of flows so smoothly on the tile.. Its so much fun.. And you get all sorts of gourds and pumpkins in the end!!

Here is my first tile.

The second tile is Halloween themed. Halloween hangover I guess..

Diva's Weekly Challenge #241: Guest post "Stones and Ceremony"

This week on Diva's blog, CZT Paula Bramante wanted us to tangle our vision of Stones and ceremony.
The first thing I remember when I see a pile of stones is Lagori. I and the kids in my neighborhood used to play this game a lot as kids. Back then, there were no PCs at home. They were only to be used once a week during the computer class!!

Here is my tile. I used Florz, Keeko and Knightsbridge

"It's a String Thing" #116

In this week's "It's a String Thing" #116, Adele has shared that  October 30 is National Candy Corn Day in the US.
Now I had never heard of 'Candy Corn' before. I googled it out, and learnt that it is a very popular and some nice looking candy!! I must remember to ask my cousin to get some from US when she visits us. :)

Zentangle has brought people from across the globe sharing not just their tangle experiences but also their culture. And this I think is a fantastic thing.

Anyway, getting back to this week's challenge, the selected String is
String#095 by Sandra Hart
and the tangles ~
Chartz by Maria Thomas, Zentangle® co-founder
Cadent by Maria Thomas, Zentangle® co-founder
Cracked by Lori Howe
Confettus by Angie Shade

I took the liberty of erasing some of the String lines, so it looks like my Candy corn are stacked atop each other.
I am still learning how to shade my tiles. I feel I have done more shading than tangling on this one :)

Here's my tile

It's a String Thing challenge#115

For "It's a String Thing" #115, Adele has selected String 116 by CZT®Sandy Hunter and tangles ~
Fandance by  CZT®Diane Knauff
Swarm by Maria Thomas
Cruffle by CZT®Sandy Hunter

I tried to do the Fandance in alternate colors in the the string.
I had some confusion doing Swarm.. kept forgetting to turn my tile the right way..
But then nothing's wrong when tangling!!

Diva's Weekly Challenge #240

This week, Diva challenged us to get inspired from the Fall/Autumn season.

I had already tangled on a leaf last weekend and I dint want to do it again(the leaf tearing, when I am in midst of tangling, does not make me happy and I lose all my zen trying to be careful!!)

I decided to use watercolors on my tiles.
Here are my tiles and also my tangled leaf.. :)

Zentangle India Weekly Inspiration#1 - Cadent,Florz

CZT® Dilip Patel, CZT® Sandhya Manne started the Zentangle® India group on Facebook. And now they have started the weekly inspirations where they select the tangle patterns for the week. We have to use these tangles prominently in our tiles.
These inspirations are posted every Friday and we have a week to finish our submissions.

This week's tangles were Cadent and Florz. Both the tangles are Zentangle®-original patterns.

Diva's weekly challenge#237-Guest Post by Charlotte Carpentier, CZT

This week on Diva's challenge , we had a challenge from CZT® Charlotte Carpentier. She wanted us to "Find something to use for a stencil, gather your dye and spray, sponge, Q-Tip, etc. and make yourself a string. Revel in the discovery that different natural dyes, like wine or hibiscus tea, will look different on different papers. Then tangle them. You can even stay inside the lines if you like or go completely outside!"

I decided to make my own stencil. Here's a picture of it.

I used a syrup made from dried Kokum(its used a lot in Konkani cuisine to add some tangy flavor). I used a toothbrush to spray the Kokum syrup onto my tile. The color was bright pink when wet and then sort of took on a brownish hue as it dried. I took a photo when I had just finished spraying.

I used CZT® Carole Ohl’s Featherfall and Suzanne McNeill’s Feathers.

Diva's Weekly Challenge #221: "Beads of Courage"

This week's challenge is to be inspired by Beads of Courage.
Beads of Courage supports kids with chronic or life threatening illnesses and their families. On this program instead of getting a sticker or a lollipop for getting a needle or an X-Ray, or a test of some kind, the kids get a glass bead to represent that part of their medical journey.

I am a BT survivor and have had to undergo radiation and chemotherapy sessions.  I understand that it can be very hard when you have to spend several days in hospital, dreading what doctors have to say about your condition. I can only imagine how much more difficult it is for kids who can't understand what's happening and why..

I would like to dedicate this tile to Artoo for being so brave and to Laura for being a braver mother.

I have used tangles Diamonddrops, Jetties, Yinlinx that resemble beads.
